# All-steel fire-rated partition systems

Two all-steel systems for fire compartment lines and escape routes. M-116 is Class A, insulating: it holds back heat as well as flame. MJ-95 is Class C, non-insulating, on the same frame construction. Both use roll-formed steel profiles with graphite intumescent strips and take fire-rated glass from 6 mm to 38 mm.

## Class A or Class C - the difference

The difference is what the partition has to do in a fire, not how it is built: both systems use the same all-steel frame, intumescent strip and glazing range.

*Class A - insulating*

### M-116 - integrity and insulation

A Class A partition resists the passage of flame and limits the heat crossing it. Specify it where the compartment line must hold back heat as well as fire, for example between a compartment and the escape route serving it.

*Class C - non-insulating*

### MJ-95 - integrity only

A Class C partition resists the passage of flame and hot gases but is not required to limit heat transfer. It suits areas where containing fire and smoke is the requirement.

## M-116 and MJ-95 compared

Ratings are selected per project. Give us the class and the rating the fire strategy calls for and we build the frame and glazing around it.

|  | M-116 | MJ-95 |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Fire class | Class A - insulating (integrity + insulation) | Class C - non-insulating (integrity) |
| Overall thickness | >= 105 mm, visible face 45 mm | >= 105 mm, visible face 45 mm |
| Frame profiles | All-steel, roll-formed from steel-mill coil, wall 1.2-1.5 mm | All-steel, roll-formed from steel-mill coil, wall 1.2-1.5 mm |
| Intumescent strip | Graphite, expansion ratio >= 30x | Graphite, expansion ratio >= 30x |
| Glazing | 6-38 mm monolithic, laminated or composite fire-rated glass; double or offset single glazing, one or both sides | 9 + 9 mm double fire-rated glazing as standard; also 6-38 mm monolithic, laminated or composite |
| Fire resistance rating | >= 1.0 h, > 1.5 h or >= 2.0 h (integrity + insulation), selected per project | Integrity only > 180 min (C3.0 h); insulating ratings from >= 1.0 h to >= 2.0 h where specified |
| Typical use | Fire compartments, high-rise floors, public venues, escape routes | Plant-room and factory divisions, public spaces, fire upgrades |

## How the system is built

- **Roll-formed steel profiles** - Frame sections are roll-formed from steel-mill coil to a wall thickness of 1.2-1.5 mm. They resist deformation, so a long run holds its line.
- **Graphite intumescent strip** - A graphite strip inside the frame expands by at least 30 times its volume when heated and keeps clamping the glass in place.
- **Fire-rated glass, 6-38 mm** - Monolithic, laminated and composite fire-rated glass fit the same glazing detail. M-116 takes glass on one or both sides; MJ-95 is supplied double-glazed 9 + 9 mm.
- **Modular build** - Frames assemble from modular sections, which keeps installation on site quick and lets a bay be opened again for later maintenance.

## Where these systems are used

- **Fire compartment lines** - Partitions that divide a floor plate into compartments, with the frame line following the compartment drawing.
- **Escape routes and corridors** - Glazed screens along corridors that stay bright while separating the route from the space beside it.
- **High-rise office floors** - Compartment and lobby screens running from floor slab to soffit.
- **Public buildings and plant rooms** - Foyers, halls and circulation areas with a defined fire strategy; divisions around plant and production areas.

## Documentation

Mingjia builds these systems to a stated construction and a stated rating, and makes no third-party fire approval claim for the assemblies themselves. The class and rating you specify - Class A at >= 2.0 h, for example - are confirmed against your project's fire strategy before they are relied on, and the frame, glazing and intumescent build-up is set out in writing.

The third-party reports we can publish cover other systems, and we keep them separate on purpose: the steel-core aluminium-clad partition system, measured at Rw 46 dB with wind load resistance Class 5, water tightness Class 4 and reaction to fire Class B1 to GB 8624-2012 (report no. CS425113133AQ734Z); and our aluminium profiles, tested to the GB/T 5237 series with all 19 items conforming (report no. CS925706226AQ947Z). Neither covers the fire-rated assemblies. Details are on the [certificates page](https://en.mijiaeg.com/certificates.html).

## Talk to us about your project

Send the compartment drawings or elevations, the class and rating you have to meet, and the glazing you intend to use. We quote against drawings, with the frame, intumescent detail and glass itemised.
